The National Electrical Code® (NEC®) applies to all persons who perform electrical work. Maintenance electricians, construction electricians, instrumentation technicians, engineers, and maintenance technicians are examples of those who must have a working knowledge of the NEC. Whether running power to a new piece of electrical equipment, setting the overloads on a motor starter, installing a security camera, or replacing a fluorescent ballast, compliance with the NEC is mandatory. The Code has been adopted as law in all fifty states and NTT teaches the NEC throughout the United States and to global organizations in various international locations.

This three-day course provides an excellent introduction to the NEC along with practical navigation exercises. The major changes to the 2023 NEC are addressed throughout the course for those seeking Code updates.

NOTE: Previous versions of NEC® are available to meet state code adoption and CEU requirements. Tell us which cycle you need.

Typical field applications challenge both the novice and the experienced electrical worker. The course covers topics most needed by electrical workers including the requirements for grounding and bonding, properly sizing conductors and overcurrent protection for different applications, wiring methods, motor installation and other general equipment specifics, and special topics as requested by attendees. NTT also offers additional training on specific industry applications of the NEC.

This comprehensive one-day lecture course is designed to mitigate the risk associated with working in confined spaces. It will benefit anyone who has identified permit required spaces and must develop a written program for identifying and evaluating hazards, preventing unauthorized entry and establishing safe entry procedures. This includes safety personnel, maintenance personnel, facility managers, supervisors and personnel who might work in confined spaces.

Every year, approximately 1.6 million Americans perform some type of work activity in a confined space. Working in a confined space can be dangerous. Accidents occur to workers because they fail to recognize that a confined space is a potential hazard. Serious injury and even death can result from asphyxiation, engulfment, electric shock, falls and heat stress. Every worker entering a confined space should consider that the most unfavorable conditions may exist, and the dangers of explosion, asphyxiation and poisoning are present. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration believes that up to 85% of these accidents can be prevented through a successful confined space entry program.

NTT’s Electrical Safety: Practical Skills for Switchgear training helps qualified electrical workers, operators, technicians, and maintenance personnel apply safe work practices when interacting with low- and medium-voltage switchgear systems. This course addresses practical risks associated with breaker operation, racking, switching procedures, shock and arc flash exposure, and temporary protective grounding.

Switchgear tasks can expose workers to serious hazards when they do not fully understand the equipment, operating positions, racking process, interlocks, required PPE, boundaries, or grounding procedures.

The program supports safer and more consistent task execution by reinforcing shock and arc flash risk assessment, safe switching practices, remote operation or racking methods when applicable, and maintenance. It is aligned with OSHA 1910.269, NFPA 70E®, NFPA 70B, and applicable industry guidance.

Participants gain practical experience using NTT switchgear and circuit breaker training equipment while working through the flow of real switchgear tasks: developing a job safety plan, selecting and inspecting PPE, establishing boundaries, operating and racking breakers, inspecting breaker and cubicle components, testing for absence of voltage, and installing and removing temporary protective grounds.

The NFPA 70E Standard for Electrical Safety requires retraining in safety-related work practices and the applicable changes in the standard at least every 3 years. Additionally, refresher training should occur whenever there is a change in job assignment, a change in the type of equipment or processes present, or when the worker is not complying with safetyrelated work practices.

This refresher training fulfills this requirement in an efficient 8-hour format.

Topics include the essential knowledge and skills for conducting thorough risk assessments, selecting, inspecting, and properly using personal protective equipment (PPE), and verifying the safety of equipment for normal operation. Participants will also learn how to create detailed job safety plans to ensure safe electrical work and understand the critical procedures for establishing an electrically safe work condition through Lockout/Tagout (LOTO).

Participants will use both the NFPA 70E and NTT’s Electrical Safety Job Aid to review real-world scenario safety-related practices, enabling them to apply best practices consistently in the field.
