Power Tools Skills Modules

This group of modules outlines the various types of power tools used in the manufacturing process and how to use them. Each module in this competency group builds on the one before it, giving you confidence as you develop your knowledge in a way that is logical and intuitive.

Pistol Grip Drills

Upon completion of this module, you will be able to list various types of drill motors and describe each one’s components (Estimated completion time: 0.8 hours).

Drilling Techniques

This module is designed to teach you the proper drilling technique to ensure a quality hole (Estimated completion time: 1.1 hours).

Winslow Drills

After completing this module, you will be able to use this tool to drill multiple holes at one time (Estimated completion time: 0.7 hours).

Compression Riveters

Upon completion of this module, you will be able to list the components of a compression riveter and its dies, set one up for use, and install a rivet (Estimated completion time: 0.9 hours).

Rivet Installation Tools

Upon completion of this module, you will be able to list the components of a rivet gun and blind rivet puller, explain the purpose of a bucking bar, and describe how to use these (Estimated completion time: 1.1 hours).

Introduction to Stationary Power Tools

This module is designed to teach familiarize you with a power island (stationary, floor-mounted tools), some of its equipment, and safety guidelines for its use (Estimated completion time: 1 hour).

Disc and Belt Sanders

After completing this module, you will understand how these tools are used to remove material, round corners, and break edges, as well as their use for deburring and chamfering (Estimated completion time: 1.3 hours).

Drill Press

By completing this module, you will be able to explain how this tool is used to create holes in metal, wood, plastic, and other materials (Estimated completion time: 1.2 hours).

Band Saw

This module is designed to teach you how to use a band saw to trim straight and contouring wood, fiber, plastic, and sheet metal (Estimated completion time: 1.2 hours).

Arbor Press

Table Saw

Upon completion of this module, you will be able to explain the major components of a table saw; how to make adjustments on it; general safety guidelines; and how to use it for cutting wood, plastic, composite, and other materials to precise sizes and angles (Estimated completion time: 1.6 hours).

Operating a Table Saw

This purpose of this module is to teach you how to safety and effectively operate a table saw to make a rip cut, cross cut, bevel cut, and miter cut (Estimated completion time: 1.9 hours).
