Grounding and Bonding Essentials: NEC®
Lecture
2 Days
CEU ELIGIBLE
At the end of this training program attendees will be able to:
- Explain grounding and bonding concepts and terminology consistent with NEC 2026.
- Identify and install grounding electrode systems and grounding electrode conductors, including correct sizing and installation location.
- Apply bonding requirements at services, separately derived systems, buildings/structures, enclosures, and equipment to ensure an effective fault-current path.
- Analyze fault conditions and describe how faults clear (single fault-current path), including coordination with overcurrent devices.
- Describe and apply ground-fault protection concepts (GFP/GFCI) and verify functional intent.

Why You should take this training program
NTT’s Grounding and Bonding Essentials: NEC® course provides electrical professionals with comprehensive training on grounding and bonding systems in compliance with the 2026 National Electrical Code. This course supports accurate application of NEC grounding and bonding requirements.
Participants will apply NEC® provisions to grounding electrode systems, bonding jumpers, separately derived systems, equipment grounding conductors, and ground-fault protection. This course emphasizes sizing using NEC® tables and evaluating installations to support predictable fault clearing and code compliance across industrial and commercial facilities.
Continuing Education Units (CEUs) and Contact Hours
Upon completion of this training program, the attendee will receive a certificate of completion. Please contact your state or local licensing agency to determine if this training program is accepted for Continuing Education recognition by the agency.

Who Should Take This Training Program
Created for personnel who work with, design, or enforce electrical systems. It is particularly valuable for professions such as
- electricians
- engineers
- inspectors
- maintenance personnel
Additional participants who will benefit include project managers and safety engineers who rely on NEC knowledge to make informed technical and regulatory decisions and to fulfill continuing education requirements.
-
What You'll Learn
Learners will build practical, code-based skills to apply grounding and bonding requirements in real-world electrical systems.
By the end of this training, attendees will be able to:
- Apply NEC® requirements for grounding and bonding in electrical installations
- Size grounding and bonding conductors using NEC® tables
- Understand and verify effective fault-current paths
- Identify common grounding and bonding errors that lead to safety risks or code violations
- Apply grounding and bonding requirements to services, equipment, and systems
- Troubleshoot issues that impact fault clearing and system performance
-
Training Program Description
Grounding and bonding are essential for electrical safety and system performance. When applied correctly, they ensure fault current returns to its source quickly so protective devices operate as intended. Improper installation can result in shock hazards, equipment damage, and failed inspections.
This course provides practical guidance on how to correctly apply NEC® grounding and bonding requirements using real-world scenarios and industry-recognized methodologies.
Participants learn the core principles that define how electrical systems behave under normal and fault conditions.
- Grounding and bonding terminology and system fundamentals.
- The relationship between grounding, bonding, and overcurrent protection.
- Grounded versus ungrounded system considerations.
- System grounding configurations and connection to earth.
- Fault-current paths and how faults are cleared.
This course enables participants to evaluate systems for compliance and performance in the field. Participants
- Verifying continuity of grounding and bonding paths.
- Tracing fault-current paths through electrical systems.
- Identifying misbonding and improper grounding conditions.
- Applying NEC® tables for conductor sizing validation.
- Troubleshooting issues that prevent proper fault clearing.
Training Approach
This 2-day course combines lecture with practical application, helping participants translate NEC® requirements into consistent, inspection-ready work across industrial and commercial environments.
