Lean Manufacturing Skills modules

This group of modules outlines the development of lean manufacturing skills and how they are applied in the production process. Each module in this competency group builds on the one before it, giving you confidence as you develop your knowledge in a way that is logical and intuitive.

The History of Lean Manufacturing

This module is designed to teach you the major events in the history of lean manufacturing, principles and practices, and the three essential elements of the Toyota Production System (Estimated completion time: 0.9 hours).

Workplace Organization

After completing this module, you will be able to describe common methods used to organize the workplace and the criteria used to measure their effectiveness (Estimated completion time: 1.1 hours).

Sort

This module is designed to familiarize you with the process of Sort, which involves removing unnecessary items and general clutter in the work area (Estimated completion time: 0.7 hours).

Straighten

This module is designed to familiarize you with Straighten, a method used to reduce wasted steps, motion, and time. By the end of the module, you will be able to explain techniques designed to help you store tools where they’re needed and visually obvious (Estimated completion time: 0.9 hours).

Shine

This module is designed to familiarize you with a process known as Shine, which is a series of routines established to maintain a clean and tidy workplace (Estimated completion time: 0.8 hours).

Standardize

After completing this module, you will be able apply 5S to standardize the Sort, Straighten, and Shine activities in your workplace (Estimated completion time: 0.7 hours).

Sustain

Considered the most difficult part of the 5S process, Sustain is about establishing the training and discipline required to maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment. This module is designed to teach you about Sustain requirements and compliance activity, key actions, and how it’s executed (Estimated completion time: 0.7 hours).
